VELVET SPIDER CARE SHEET

There is very little care resources out there for velvet spiders so this care sheet has been solely made based on my own knowledge and what I have learnt over the past couple of years.

First and foremost velvet spiders require a dry enclosure so this means no water bowl and no misting. They get all of their hydration required from their prey.

Housing: although velvets are very hardy little species they can also be very sensitive when young so to ensure they have the best start when they are young I house them only on dry moss to make sure they have easy access to prey. As they start to grow larger I will then incorporate things such as dry coco fibre, dry moss, leaf litter and some dry wood such as cork bark. You can often start out with the 25ml vial they will arrive in as temp housing as they grow you can upgrade them into larger enclosures.

Feeding: the size of the prey will depend on the size of the spider. If they are small you will want to feed them small prey such hydei fruitflies and as they grow you will want to increase the size of the prey to things such as locust, mealworms, wax worms and wax moths.

Temps: I keep my velvet spiders at around 24-26c

Lifespan: males roughly live between 1-2 years and females live approximately 5 years.
